Statement Issued by Auar Foundation for Justice and Development Regarding the Prevention of Drinking Water Supplies from Reaching Taiz City
Views: 17
Auar Foundation for Justice and Development expresses its deep concern over the reported prevention by Houthi militias of drinking-water tankers from entering Taiz city via the Al-Dhabab road. The Foundation holds them responsible for this measure and for any resulting humanitarian and health consequences affecting civilians
The Foundation emphasizes that ensuring access to safe and sufficient drinking water is essential to protecting the rights to life and health. Obstructing water supplies, amid the ongoing siege and restrictions on the entry of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid, increases the risks faced by residents, particularly the most vulnerable groups
Auar Foundation stresses the need to respect the rules of international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians and prevent them from being deprived of supplies essential to their survival, in accordance with the applicable legal rules
The Foundation calls on the United Nations and international, humanitarian, and human rights organizations to take urgent action to ensure the safe and regular resumption of water-tanker deliveries, lift restrictions obstructing the entry of essential supplies into the city, monitor and document violations, verify reported incidents, and take the necessary measures to ensure accountability in accordance with the law
Auar Foundation for Justice and Development reaffirms that access to water and essential services must not be subjected to restrictions that endanger civilian lives and health. Protecting residents and ensuring that their humanitarian needs are met are obligations that require urgent and tangible action
